Hey 🙂
Right now, I’m in my small Dublin flat. Sitting with a glass of cheap wine, and reflecting on the work I’ve done this week so far. I will be honest. I’m quite proud of how well I’ve balanced my client work, my full-time job and my leisure time over the last few weeks.
However, what I want to talk about today is Netflix Ireland.
Yep.
Good ole Netflix. I do enjoy Netflix but I’m not a crazy fan – I am more of a YouTube kinda guy. I spend a lot of valuable time during the day watching copywriting videos and videos on how to improve my writing so that I can connect better with my subscribers, or my clients’ readers. You know, productive stuff 🙂
But more importantly, I want you to understand that the previous statement is a lie.
I use YouTube to watch animal videos, video gameplays, anime re-runs, cool martial arts fight scenes, reaction videos and tips to surviving a zombie apocalypse.
Back to Netflix Ireland.
Over the last 10 days, however, I watched the 5th season of La Casa del Papel, the 4th season of Gotham, and now I have started watching House of Cards. So yeah, I’m going down one hell of a rabbit hole. Regardless, I am glad I live in Dublin, Ireland. As I only just realised that compared to a lot of other global regions, we get a nice selection of series, movies and anime over here.
I realised that the more I watch Netflix series in Dublin, movies and anime; the more I enjoy shows that have themes of betrayal, manipulation, violence, ruthless pragmatism and very high stakes. If a show does not have these themes, I will find a character in that show that brings some or all of the above to the table – and follow them closely.
To me, such characters make the show so much more interesting. They usually bring about moral dilemmas and present a huge challenge for the protagonist to overcome.
Although these themes may be exaggerated for the sake of entertainment, I do love the fact that there is always a touch of ice-cold reality in their portrayal. Look closely around you, or your previous personal experiences. Each one of us has come across a person that left such a strong logical or emotionally negative impact on us. And if no such person comes into your mind, then that person might just be you 🤷.
Oops…
Ah Here, don’t think about it too much! I just want to share with you my admiration for the sometimes, sexy and irresistible dark side of the coin. And a huge reason for that is because I’m nothing like that.
I’m clumsy, I’m nerdy and prudent. But I will admit that within me, lies a slight fascination with the dark side that has nothing to do with Netflix.

Also, I will never condone acts of inhumanity just for the sake of it. This is why I don’t admire characters like the Joker, but I enjoy his purpose and the challenge he poses to Batman.
That is also the reason why I enjoy well-written villains and anti-heroes in movies, anime and TV. Hell, I even sympathize with these characters in the context of the story. #rorshach
Erm. So… what has Netflix got to do with Copywriting?
Oh. In this case, absolutely nothing.
This time around, I simply just want to find out from YOU what sort of real or fictional characters spark your interest. Is it the underdog? The character with absolute power? Or just simply the character you are most relatable to?
Also, are there any particular shows on Netflix Ireland that you can recommend? In that case, I wanna hear it all in the comments. If you enjoyed this, read my other stuff here 🙂
Thank you x
