WordPress functionality would never be the same without its numerous free plugins. But before I continue, I’ll have to put out a disclaimer. I don’t want to come off as a WP fanboy, but I cannot be grateful enough for the simple fact that this platform exists.
I began my journey into writing only in 2017 through WordPress. Due to a personally difficult situation at the time, I eventually became disillusioned with my finance career. As a result, I tried my hand at various other things – which included marketing, cooking and writing. Granted, I’m generally good at things that require numbers. Hell, I even made a career out of it. But deep down, ever since I was a kid, I was always more of a creative than a scientist.

It wasn’t until I joined some pyramid ‘marketing university’ scheme and was given a free wordpress website, that I started messing around with the idea of creating content for that website.
I quickly realised that I had fun simply owning a website – making changes on the dashboard, refreshing the page and seeing the result on my actual Worpress front page. It was such a big deal for me at the time.
So I just decided to start creating blog posts just for the fun of it. I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with this newfound skill. Or how to monetize it. But I decided then and there, that I was simply going to do it consistently for the next 5 years.
But that’s not why you are here 🙂
My 3 Best Free WordPress Plugins – 2022.
1. Yoast for WordPress.
As a frequent blog post writer, this is the Official big daddy of SEO plugins and my personal favourite. I cannot think of a wordpress plugin that has served me as well as Yoast.
With over 5m active users worldwide, Yoast has proven to be a staple side-kick for any wordpress user that wants optimal rankings on Google and other search engines.
The ‘Readability’ and ‘SEO’ analyses are both exceptional features on the plugin. And their assistance to content writers can only be compared to Robin and Batman, or Falcon and Captain America.
How on earth this plugin is free is beyond me. Thank you @yoast.
This one is a wordpress plugin I only started using recently. OptinMonster is a powerful lead generation plugin, that also allows you to create visually stunning opt-in forms. These forms are usually designed to collect website visitors’ contact info, and they are optimized for the highest conversion rates.
The amount of features and designs you get for free is nothing short of ridiculous. Other customizable features such as triggers, geo-location targeting and insights all make for a very powerful, yet optimized lead generation tool. I am currently still learning and trying to make full use of all these features. But I can say without a doubt that I will be using this plugin for a long time to come.
No. Not the jetpack CJ uses to fly over Los Santos in the GTA series. This jetpack is more of a shield than a vehicle. But despite its enhanced web functionality and security features, the feature I love the most is its traffic growth reports and statistics.
I use Jetpack regularly to check my site visits and see which of my pages and blog posts generate the most traffic. Sometimes, I do it for a simple ego boost. But mostly, this detailed information helps me determine which direction I will take my content in the near future.
The regular backups also give me full reassurance in the fact that I can retrieve my website in the event of a major site failure.
All in all, what’s not to love about this free plugin?
And that! My friends…
…brings us to the end of this blog post. Do you agree with the above list? Or do you have a separate list of best free wordpress plugins? If you do, share with us in the comments. Who knows? We might all learn something new 🙂
